Bank of China New York Branch Participates in the New York Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival
NewsOn August 8 and 9, 2026, the 36th New York Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival took place at Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens. One of New York City’s premier summer multicultural events, this year’s festival was the largest yet, bringing together more than 180 teams and nearly 1,800 paddlers from across diverse communities. Tens of thousands of spectators attended to enjoy the races and celebrate the city’s rich cultural heritage. Bank of China New York Branch, a long-term partner of the festival, served as a sponsor and once again demonstrated its commitment to "Global Reach, Local Heart" — both on the water and across the event grounds.
This year’s festival also coincided with the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. To mark the occasion, organizers presented a special commemorative exhibition and invitational race highlighting the history of dragon boat racing in North America, dating back to 1986 when Hong Kong-style wooden dragon boats were first introduced to the region. Against this meaningful backdrop, the New York Branch dragon boat team – composed of employees from across departments – competed in the Corporate Invitational with the coordination, determination, and team spirit Bank of China is known for.
Beyond the races, the New York Branch hosted a booth featuring traditional games, prize drawings, and interactive activities that drew large numbers of community residents. Leaders and employees welcomed visitors, shared information on cross-border financial services and payment solutions, and handed out souvenirs. The booth created an engaging and welcoming environment for visitors of all ages and helped drive awareness of Bank of China’s services in the community.
The festival was an opportunity to bring the Bank of China community together. The New York Branch hosted a lakeside picnic for employees and their families, attended by more than 200 people. Colleagues and family members gathered to share food, enjoy the surroundings, and cheer on their teammates competing on the water. The gathering strengthened relationships among colleagues and deepened the sense of connection and belonging within the Bank of China community.
While the races have concluded, the spirit of teamwork and community engagement endures. Bank of China remains committed to serving local communities through its financial expertise while supporting cultural exchange and strengthening connections between China and United States. Through continued events like these, the Bank aims to foster a more connected, inclusive, and vibrant community for all.
