Bank of China Supports "Letters in the Clouds: My Story with China" Event in New York, Celebrating 75 Years of the People's Republic of China
NewsOn September 28, 2024, Bank of China U.S.A. had the honor of supporting the special U.S. session of "Letters in the Clouds: My Story with China," hosted by China Media Group in New York. This event was held to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and foster deeper cultural exchanges between the U.S. and China.

The event featured prominent speakers, including Shen Haixiong, Deputy Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Xie Feng, Chinese Ambassador to the U.S., Hu Wei, President of Bank of China U.S.A. and Chairman of the China General Chamber of Commerce-U.S.A., and Dr. Lamont Repollet, President of Kean University. They each emphasized the importance of cultural exchange and people-to-people diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding between nations.

In his remarks, Hu Wei highlighted Bank of China’s long-standing role as a bridge between the U.S. and China. Since the 1930s, when the bank sponsored Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang’s U.S. tour, Bank of China has remained committed to cultural exchange. This commitment continued last year with the successful sponsorship of the Philadelphia Orchestra’s tour of China, among many other events. Hu stressed that such exchanges are crucial in enhancing mutual understanding and eliminating prejudices, serving as a foundation for enduring friendship.

As part of the event, American students from Washington state who recently participated in cultural exchanges in China shared their experiences. They expressed how transformative the visit was and how it sparked widespread interest in Chinese culture upon their return. The students took the opportunity to present basketballs as tokens of appreciation to Bank of China, China Media Group, and the Chinese Embassy for their support of these exchanges.

The theme of youth as a critical force in building bridges between nations was underscored throughout the event. Hu Wei reiterated Bank of China’s commitment to supporting initiatives like Kean University’s China exchange programs, which offer American students the opportunity to experience China firsthand. The bank will continue to explore new avenues for fostering such meaningful connections between young people in the U.S. and China.

Looking ahead, Bank of China remains dedicated to playing an active role in promoting U.S.-China relations and facilitating people-to-people exchanges. As the longest-operating Chinese bank in the U.S., we understand that our role extends beyond financial services—it includes fostering cultural understanding and contributing to the long-term friendship between our nations.
Bank of China is proud to be a vital link in these efforts, and we look forward to continuing our work in promoting peace, cooperation, and cultural exchange between the U.S. and China.
