Bank of China USA supported Women’s Event to celebrate International Women’s Day

On March 11th, 2024, Bank of China USA supported the women’s event themed “Navigating Cultural and Professional Challenges: Insights from Chinese Women Professionals in the East and West,” co-hosted by the China General Chamber of Commerce – USA (CGCC) and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York (HKETONY). 

The event attracted more than 60 attendees from the CGCC community and the Hong Kong Federation of Women Delegation for an insightful conversation on women’s career development and workplace inclusiveness against the backdrop of International Women’s Day.

Mr. Wei HU, Chairman of CGCC and President and CEO of Bank of China – USA, delivered welcome remarks. Chairman HU introduced CGCC’s vision and efforts in promoting global economic and trade cooperation as well as corporate social responsibility, emphasizing that both CGCC and Bank of China – USA have always been committed to creating a more inclusive workplace environment.

HKETONY Director Ms. Maisie HO

In delivering her opening remarks, the HKETONY Director, Ms. Maisie HO, said that the HK Government attaches great importance to promoting women’s development. “Women make up 54% of Hong Kong’s population and is one of the world’s best-performing cities in achieving gender parity. In the United Nations’ “Human Development Report”, Hong Kong women ranked fourth worldwide in the Human Development Index.  Women are well accomplished, and well empowered, in various areas,” she added.

Moderated by Mrs. Catherine FENG, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications & Business Relations at Bank of China – USA, the event featured an inspiring panel on how women within the U.S.-China business community navigate cultural and professional challenges. Panelists included Vice-Chairpersons and Honorary Presidents of Hong Kong Federation of Women, Mrs. Yu-San Kan LEONG and Ms. Stephanie HUANG; Director of Corporate Communication and Research at China General Chamber of Commerce-USA, Ms. Abby LI, and Managing Director of Corporate and Investment Bank at J.P. Morgan, Ms. Lu CAO.

The 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women, the United Nation's largest annual gathering on gender equality and women's empowerment is in session. Ms.Joyce CHAN, the Commissioner for Women Affairs (designate) of Home and Youth Affairs Bureau who is in New York to attend the UN session, gave closing remarks.

Bank of China USA places great importance on gender equality and women empowerment and is dedicated to creating a more inclusive workplace environment. Currently, in the senior and middle management levels, over half are female leaders, truly realizing the concept that women can hold up half the sky.
