BOC Included in Fortune’s Global 500 List for the 26th Consecutive Year

On August 10, 2020, Fortune released the ‘Fortune Global 500’ list for the 2019 fiscal year, their annual ranking of the largest 500 corporations worldwide, measured by total revenue. Bank of China was again included on the prestigious list, ranking #43, up one position from the prior year.

Although Fortune’s Global 500 list first launched 30 years ago, it is only recently that companies based in Mainland China began to feature on the list. More importantly, for the first time this year, Mainland China (including Hong Kong) is in the lead, with the highest number of rankings, an increase of five from last year, totaling 124 companies.

Companies included in Fortune’s Global 500 list are ranked based on their total revenue for their fiscal year ending on or before March 31, 2020. Every year, factors including the global economy, trade policies and mergers and acquisitions help determine the current rankings. According to Fortune, the Global 500 corporations generated a total combined revenue of $33.3 trillion and $2.1 trillion in profits in 2019, up from $32.7 trillion and $2.15 trillion, respectively, in 2018.
